Under direct supervision, assists in the preparation and completion of specifically assigned federal, foreign, and state income tax returns, federal excise tax returns, tax documentation for the fund auditors and annual financial statements, Section 19 notices, required distributions, monthly and quarterly distributions, IRS diversification tests, tax projects and analysis, and related reports for assigned mutual funds. Completes more routine and established projects and analyses.
Prepares income, excise, and state tax returns for assigned funds.
Periodically reviews portfolio holdings for PFIC, REIT, partnership, complex, and derivative securities.
Analyzes book/tax differences for impact on distributions and schedules differences for excise and fiscal years.
Analyzes excise and fiscal year wash sale deferrals, straddles, foreign tax credits, and other required tax calculations and analysis.
After each portfolio’s fiscal annual financial period, prepares work papers for the fund audits that lend support to the tax provision and to the tax footnotes in the financial statements. Review financial statements to ensure accurate reporting of tax information.
Calculates all qualified dividend distributions and corporate dividends received deduction for assigned mutual funds. This includes the monthly reconciliation of financial data related to the dividends.
Reviews all foreign tax returns for accuracy and completeness.
Prepares RIC qualification tests for all assigned mutual funds: 90% income distribution, 90% gross income tests, and monthly IRS diversification testing.
Prepares schedules for any potential fund mergers – including, but not limited to pre- and post-reorganization analysis, and analysis of capital loss carry-overs and built-in gains or losses as required by IRC Sections 381-384,.
Calculates ownership changes under IRC regulations.
Calculates earnings and profit and equalization for assigned mutual funds.
Prepares monthly tax worksheets, excise estimates, and projections used for determining monthly dividend rates, quarterly dividend rates, annual distributions, distributions per share, and Section 19 notices.
On an annual basis, prepares estimated and actual excise tax worksheets with supporting schedules.
Prepares various schedules for shareholder year-end tax reporting.
Complies with all internal controls and procedures.
Assist in special projects and other duties as assigned.
Proactively manages internal deadlines on assignments to ensure assignments are turned in to reviewers in a timely manner.
Continuous development financial, accounting and tax knowledge and skills.
Must Have Technical Skills:
Knowledge of preparing RIC qualifications
3 years of Foreign tax returns
Knowledge of Portfolio holdings for PFIC, REIT, and derivative securities.
