Description

This is an exciting opportunity to join an innovative North American Financial Services organization with operations in Canada and the U.S. The organization is growing rapidly and looking for a Senior Vice President of Tax (Mutual Funds). The Tax VP will play a significant role in shaping the investment tax structure and compliance of the organization. This position will support hedge funds and private equity funds, in collaboration with third-party tax preparers. The aim is to guarantee efficient tax reporting and communication We are searching for a highly experienced leader to join the team and work from their Toronto office.

Responsibilities

• Lead and specialize in intricate fund tax structuring, focusing on the development of multi-fund releases like Mutual Fund Trusts (MFTs), Trusts, Limited Partnerships (LPs), Master Feeders, and corporate entities.
• Provide adept oversight on diverse tax issues, encompassing Offshore Investment Fund Property (OIFP), Foreign Accrual Property Income (FAPI), Mutual Fund Trust Deductibility (MDR), and Dry Income for multiple funds.
• Offer strategic insights on deploying blockers and organizing offshore investment mechanisms to boost tax efficiency and elevate financial outcomes.
• Manage and supervise third-party tax preparers and administrators, ensuring prompt and precise submission of Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA) and province-specific submissions for all Canadian funds. This encompasses HST/GST submissions, T5013, and T3s.
• Collaborate effectively with legal, tax, and business units to deeply assess and pinpoint successful tax strategies for upcoming fund introductions.
• Work hand-in-hand with the Canada Product Development and Sales teams to pinpoint tax-centric reporting necessities and regulatory obligations for different Canadian fund configurations. Create efficient methods to meet these needs.
• Evaluate and establish pertinent tax treaty rates, facilitating the crafting of necessary claims and paperwork to advocate for reduced tax rates on income allocations to Canadian funds.
• Oversee the yearly HST/GST adherence procedure and lead efforts to engage and inform investors and stakeholders.
• Conduct meticulous reviews of investor profiles and tax records, guaranteeing precise tax processing and promptly addressing any inconsistencies to uphold regulatory compliance.
• Take a key role in supporting the launch of Canadian funds by executing tax due diligence and ensuring compliance during model configuration.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10+ years of experience in Canadian taxation.
• Working experience in Fund Structuring and Restructuring.
• Understanding of investment partnership taxation and mutual fund trusts taxation.
• CPA designation or Master of Tax preferred.
• An in-depth Tax program is preferred.
